Removal of sagging skin of the legs
This procedure shapes the contour of the legs by removing sagging skin and subcutaneous tissue. In this way, the legs get a tighter look and proportionality to the rest of the body.
Excess skin and fat in the legs is a problem that is most common in older women, but also in younger patients who have been overweight and have sagging skin on their hands after significant weight loss. Many of them feel discomfort and avoid wearing clothes that reveal this part of the legs.
The first step is to go through a consultation with a specialist, who will explain in details the whole procedure and if the patient is suitable for it. It will be shown where the incisions will be made. The patient will be informed about the recovery period and about the possible risks and complications related to the upcoming procedure, will also receive instructions on what to do before the operation and what tests will be necessary. During the consultation the patient asks the surgeon all the questions about the upcoming procedure and to inform the doctor if have any diseases, as well as about all the medications currently taken/ if any / .
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. The duration is about 2 – 2.30 hours. An S-shaped incision is made on the inside of the upper thighs. The exact length of the incisions depends on the degree of excess skin and fat that needs to be removed. After the operation, the incisions are sutured, covered with a surgical bandage, and in some cases, drains are placed. If the patient has a significant amount of subcutaneous fat, liposuction is performed along with the removal of excess skin to achieve optimal results. In very rare cases, the problem can only be corrected with liposuction.
The purpose of the procedure is to restore the aesthetic appearance of the legs. The result for patients is excellent and this has a positive effect on their quality of life. The procedure is not painful and recovery is quite fast. Ordinary painkillers help to reduce postoperative pain. Patients can return to work up to a week after surgery. Light exercise and exertion are possible a few days after surgery. More serious activity is recommended after a month. The sutures are removed on the 12th-14th day. Every 2-3 days after the operation the dressings are changed. They should not get wet, so hygiene is partial during this period.
