Chin with implant
The procedure, also known as Mentoplasty, aims to improve the appearance and contour of the chin. With the placement of an implant, the concave and protruding chins acquire a beautiful and harmonious shape with the rest of the face. The procedure is suitable for any patient who is physically healthy and has realistic expectations for the end result. Most often these are patients born with concave, poorly defined chins.
The procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia and intravenous sedation or under general anaesthesia. The duration is about an hour. Depending on the surgeon’s choice, the incision can be made on the inside of the lower lip or under the chin. The first option is most often used, where the scar remains completely hidden. The implant is placed in the pocket made by the surgeon above the chin bone. The incision is sutured with absorbable sutures when made on the inside of the lip.
The result is permanent and the implant does not need to be replaced. Patients can enjoy their new vision for a lifetime without additional surgery. During the first days, up to a week at most, the chin will be swollen and swollen. It is good for the patient to keep his head raised so that the swelling subsides faster. An ice pack can also be placed for the first few hours after surgery. Pain when speaking or eating is possible, so more fluids and soft foods are recommended during the first week. Postoperative pain is moderate and responds well to regular painkillers. After a week, the patient can return to work and take up their daily responsibilities.
Before the intervention itself the patient should go through a consultation with our specialist, with whom the desired result will be discussed and how possible it is to be achieved. During the consultation the patient should ask all questions and share about diseases and medications, if any.
